Partnerships

The Fundação Bienal de São Paulo has several partnership programs with companies, government agencies, and other institutions. These partnerships enable funding of the Bienal activities and help strengthen its position as one of the world’s most important art institutions.

The Fundraising and Marketing Department works on two key fronts:

Partnerships: partnership-sponsored projects funded through the Rouanet Law and donations from legal and individual entities;
Events: rental of the Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion for major events.

Proceeds from these fundraising initiatives enable the following:

1 – Bienais de São Paulo (Art Biennials): pre-production, production and organization of biennial exhibitions, as well as itinerant and special exhibitions;

2 – Infrastructure Renovation: modernization and improvement of the Bienal facility – Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion – listed by the São Paulo City Heritage, Heritage Preservation Municipal Council (CONPRESP), State of São Paulo Council for Historical, Archaeological, Artistic and Tourist Patrimony (CONDEPHAAT), and Brazilian Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN);

3 – Arquivo Histórico Wanda Svevo [Wanda Svevo Historical Archive]: a major venue for the dissemination and construction of contemporary art history in Brazil. The partnership projects aim to provide the Archive with the necessary infrastructure to organize, catalogue and disseminate its collection.

Donations through Tax Incentives

Federal Law for Culture Incentive (AKA Rouanet Law) No. 8.3139/1 – Paragraph 18) allows individual and legal entities to redirect part of their income tax payments to cultural projects previously approved by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture, with further reimbursement of 100% of the full sponsored amount.

Individuals – 6% of income tax payments (Amigos da Bienal)
Legal Entities – 4% of income tax payments

Donations with no Tax Incentives

Donations may be freely given by members of society.

Events

The Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion – also known as the Bienal Pavilion, designed by the renowned Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer – was built to house large scale exhibitions. This modern facility is constructed of concrete, glass and steel and is conveniently located within Ibirapuera Park, one of São Paulo’s prime areas. The Bienal Pavilion is only 6 km away from Congonhas City Airport, and several shopping malls, cinemas, theaters, museums, restaurants are available nearby, as well as major city landmarks such as Paulista Avenue.

Its architectural beauty and privileged location make the Bienal Pavilion the venue of choice for various events in São Paulo’s calendar i.e. Bienal de São Paulo (Art Biennials), São Paulo Fashion Week, and SP Arte.

The Bienal Pavilion features a dedicated space for each type of event, from trade shows to corporate functions. It is also much sought after for commercials, photo shoots, TV programs, and product launches.

Comfort, practicity, beauty, and convenience make the Bienal Pavilion a top venue for major events in São Paulo.
