Brasil Arte Contemporânea Program

Fundação Bienal de São Paulo–FBSP is a partner of the Brasil Arte Contemporânea Program [Brazil Contemporary Art Program]. Created under Governmental Decree No. 61 of August 28, 2009, the Program’s main goal is to provide tools for the internationalization of Brazilian contemporary art. The Program encompasses a broad range of initiatives that are implemented through cooperation agreements entered into with federal, state and city agencies, as well as public and private entities.

The Brazil Contemporary Art Program is coordinated by the Cultural Policy Secretariat of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture (SPC / MinC) and carried out by the Brazilian Committee of Internationalization and Economy of Contemporary Art (CBIEAC), which was also created under the same Governmental Decree. The CBIEAC is made up of representatives of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture – Cultural Policy Secretariat, International Affairs Department, National Art Foundation and Brazilian Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage –, the Cultural Department of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fundação Bienal de São Paulo, Fundação Bienal do Mercosul, besides contemporary art institutes and contemporary art galleries.

Cooperation Agreement with Fundação Bienal de São Paulo / Award Programs

The Fundação Bienal de São Paulo (FBSP) is one of the most important art institutions in the world. Its impact and relevance in the development of Brazilian fine arts are acknowledged worldwide. Since the FBSP is dedicated to fostering and disseminating contemporary art, it is continuously forging cooperation agreements with the Brazilian Ministry of Culture (MinC) for the implementation of initiatives geared to the Brazil Contemporary Art Program. In doing so, the Fundação Bienal de São Paulo not only contributes to the development and promotion of Brazilian culture, but also enhances its commitment to society and fulfills its mission.

In December 2009, a cooperation agreement between FBSP and MinC was forged to allow the publication and production of research papers in the fields of fine arts and economy of culture, as well as the qualification of artists and specialists, which consists in the training of artists and researchers for the strengthening of Brazilian contemporary art economy on the national and international circuit.

The agreement includes four incentive award programs in the following categories:
a) Grant for art residency program
b) Grant for participation in exhibits
c) Bilingual publications on contemporary art
d) Research papers on Brazilian art and art economy in Brazil

The award program also includes preparation of three technical studies on the Brazilian art system.

Brasil Arte Contemporânea Integrated Sectional Project

A project for the dissemination, promotion and overseas commercialization of Brazilian contemporary art

The Integrated Sectorial Project Brazil Contemporary Art is the result of an agreement forged in December 2006 between Fundação Bienal de São Paulo and the Brazilian Exports and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil). Fundação Bienal organizes this project undertaken in partnership with the Brazilian Ministry of Culture and its main goal is to disseminate, promote and market Brazilian contemporary art overseas.

The wide ranging initiatives that make up the project enables the expansion of knowledge across the Brazilian contemporary art scene by art collectors, critics, curators, and international opinion makers, thus helping achieve the project’s main objectives.

Target Audience

Contemporary art galleries representing artists or engaged in regular exhibition programs of the artists they represent, interested in reaching the international market.

Apex-Brasil

The Brazilian Exports and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) works in partnership with Brazil’s public and private sectors with the purpose of stimulating Brazilian exports, opening new markets, consolidating and expanding international markets, while contributing directly to the internationalization of Brazilian companies.

The Agency spearheads projects from more than 70 different sectors of the Brazilian economy and in all its commercial initiatives abroad, it promotes the quality, design and technology of goods made in Brazil thereby enhancing the diversity of Brazilian products and the country’s competitiveness. Apex-Brasil projects comprise a number of actions geared to the increase of Brazil’s exports, be it through participation in international events (trade fairs, business missions and meetings) or through the production of promotional material or integration initiatives.
